Four ways to choose your luxury accommodation on the French Riviera

Château de Valmer began as a family guesthouse in 1949, when the Montloin-Rocchietta family first opened their Provençal bastide to travellers. The same family still runs the house today. It became a five-star hotel in 2004 after several careful renovations, without losing the feeling of a home where each guest is received as a friend.

Looking for luxury accommodation on the French Riviera usually means choosing between a palace in town and a rented villa behind a gate. Here the choice is broader, yet it all sits inside one estate. Thirteen categories of rooms are spread across four families: double rooms, family rooms, treehouses and a villa. Our rooms and suites page presents each of them in detail. These four give a fair idea of the range:

  • Junior Suite Duplex Balcony: 37 m² on two levels with a balcony, for two.
  • Sea View Family Superior Room: 45 m² for four guests, looking out to sea.
  • Cabane des Lapins: a treehouse of 36 m² that sleeps four.
  • Le Cabanon: the estate’s villa, 70 m² for four guests.

Couples often settle on the suites, where the duplex layout separates the sleeping space from a quiet corner to read in the afternoon. A Superior Room with its own balcony or terrace is another way to wake up facing the gardens. Families find rooms sized for three, four or even six guests with the Family Suite, so nobody has to split across two floors of a hotel corridor. With children, the two treehouses are the playful option: the smaller Cabane des Écureuils welcomes two, perched among the branches of the park.

Whatever the category, every room opens onto the same setting: five hectares of parkland where an avenue of palms, tall cypresses, hydrangeas and fruit trees frame the old bastide. This is the real difference between luxury accommodation in a family estate and a suite in a large resort: the scale stays human and the park keeps the calm of a private garden. Château de Valmer is a member of Relais & Châteaux, a label that sets the level of service. The family adds its own idea of luxury, expressed with simplicity rather than display. You can read more about this history on the page devoted to the estate and its park.

A Michelin star, a Clarins spa and a garden that feeds the kitchen

A stay here is never only about the room. The luxury accommodation of the estate comes with everything a guest would otherwise look for elsewhere, all within walking distance of your door. Three tables share the cooking at Château de Valmer, each with its own mood, alongside a spa:

  • La Palmeraie: the gourmet restaurant, set in the century-old palm grove.
  • La Bastide: a Provençal bistro that revisits Mediterranean classics.
  • Le Jardin: lunch in the shade, between the vines and the pool.
  • Spa by Clarins: treatments, indoor pool, hammam and sauna, for adults.

La Palmeraie holds one star in the MICHELIN Guide. Its menu follows the seasons and starts in the organic vegetable garden a few steps away, where the team picks vegetables, aromatic herbs, fruit and edible flowers. La Bastide offers a more relaxed evening, with sincere cooking built on the produce of the terroir. At lunchtime, Le Jardin sets its tables under acacias and chestnut trees. The afternoon then drifts on with house cocktails, pastis and local wines over a game of pétanque.

The estate also grows its own organic vines. They are harvested by hand and give a delicate rosé that you will find on the tables of the house. Two bars complete the picture, each with its own atmosphere, one of them right by the pool.

Between meals, the outdoor heated pool sits at the heart of the park. For a slower pace, the Spa by Clarins spreads over 500 m² and opens onto the gardens. It is reserved for adults, which keeps it calm even in high summer. Inside, guests move between the hammam, the Finnish sauna, the jacuzzi and an indoor pool that is heated, while five cabins are set aside for treatments. A fitness room looks over the aromatic garden. Clarins treatments rely on active ingredients of natural origin, a good way to end a day spent outdoors.

This is what sets luxury accommodation on an estate apart from a villa rental: dinner, treatments and pétanque under the chestnut trees are part of the stay, with a team on hand to arrange them. The full presentation of the restaurants and bars gives the menus of each table.

From the palm avenue to Gigaro beach and the villages of the gulf

The estate stands in a corner of the coast that has kept its natural character. At the end of the avenue of palms, a short walk of 400 metres leads to Gigaro beach, a stretch of golden sand lined with maritime pines. From the beach, the coastal path heads east along three wild capes, past coves and scrubland, a protected landscape where some 120 species of migratory birds have been recorded. Bicycles are available at the hotel for those who prefer to explore the coast road and the surrounding vineyards on two wheels.

Closer still to the water, the house has a sister hotel. La Pinède Plage sits right on the beach in a pine grove, with a private sandy beach, a bar facing the sea and a restaurant known for its grilled fish. Kayaks, paddle boards and pedalos leave from the sand, with a sailing school and a diving school close by. It makes an easy outing for families staying at the château, who walk down in the morning and come back up for the pool in the afternoon.

Choosing luxury accommodation by the sea at La Croix-Valmer also means staying away from the summer crowds while keeping the famous port within reach. Saint-Tropez lies 16 km away by road, close enough for a morning at the market or an evening on the harbour, far enough to come back to the quiet of the park at night. The page on our location and access explains how to reach the estate by car or from the nearest airports.

That balance between nature and the glamour of the gulf is what many travellers look for in luxury accommodation on the Riviera. At Château de Valmer, both start from the same doorstep: the beach at the bottom of the garden, the villages of the gulf a short drive away. For a first stay, the house has put together several packages, from a honeymoon to a romantic escape or a full week on the coast. They are listed on the offers page, with the conditions of each one. Our reservations team will also gladly help you choose the room that suits your dates, your party and the pace you want for your holiday.
